Our wall murals are printed on 3M Control Tac High Performance
adhesive vinyl. We use the latest technology to print your
high resolution large format print for mounting to vehicles,
walls, floors and anything else that can be wrapped.
UNPACKING: If your wall mural comes in a tub remove both
ends and remove the rubber squeegee, tape, decals and paperwork.
Twist the rolled mural in one direction so it gets smaller
in diameter and slide it out the tube. Do not lay of the
floor or any place it will pick up dirt that will affect
the installation. Do not roll out on any surface that is
not perfectly flat. Only use a table that is the size of
the mural itself and will support the full size.
BE
CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING THE MURAL NOT TO BEND, CREASE OR FOLD.
TEMPORARY INSTALLATION
You may want to install your mural in a temporary location
to see if that is where you want to mount it or to move
it to a new location. You can use Velcro stick on dots or
strips applied to the back of the print then mount it to
your wall. Be careful when removing or repositioning the
print so the backing paper does not pull apart from the
vinyl print. Use a putty or butter knife to separate the
Velcro and roll back up without creasing the print. When
you are ready to install the print use the permanent installation
procedure. Be sure to remove the velcro dots and clean any
residue they may have left behind.
PERMANENT INSTALLATION
PREPARATION
We recommend that you have an experienced sign installer
do the permanent installation. The prints can be installed
by do it yourselfers if you take your time follow the instructions.
You must have some experience with decals or installing
stickers. If you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself find
someone who has installed decals on a car or has some experience
with vinyl stickers. Do not rush the job. This is a two
to three person job. Only a professional can apply them
with only one person.
CLEANING Make sure the wall is clean and free from any
bumps, cuts or damage. You may run a paint scraper or straight
edge razor over the entire surface to remove any paint blobs
or specks.
ADHESIVE
Your digital print comes with its own adhesive applied to
the vinyl and a backing paper that you remove to expose
it. There are no messy glues or processes to install the
prints. The prints come in one large piece instead of strips
that need to be matched up.
Remember once you remove the backing paper from the digital
print the adhesive will stick to everything. So it very
important you do not let it stick to itself or the adhesive
on any part of the vinyl. If the vinyl sticks to itself
it might not be able to pull apart. If it sticks to the
printed part of the digital print it may pull off the color.
So the most important thing to remember is to be careful
once the backing paper is removed.
IN THE TUBE You should have your wall mural, a squeegee,
a low friction sleeve, release paper, and blue painters
tape. You may also have some sample pieces of white vinyl
and extra decals. Do not use any other tape other than the
blue painters tape on the print itself.
FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF
If you have sample pieces of vinyl pull off the backing
paper on one piece. Stick it to itself to see how it will
not pull apart and familiarize yourself with the qualities
of the material. Then apply the other one as if it is your
digital print using the squeegee we provided. You will be
able to pull it back off the wall then reapply it to test
the pressure sensitivity of the product and reapplication.
The material is very flexible and will stretch. Be careful
not to rip it when spreading it out or ripping it when pulling
on it. If you have to pull it back off in a small area to
reposition it be careful not to stretch it otherwise you
will have wrinkles in that area. Bubbles can be pricked
at the edge with a pin on the far end and the air pushed
towards the hole with your thumb. When mounting to painted
walls we recommend limiting any repositioning because it
may lose some of its adhesive qaulities.
REMOVING FROM PACKAGING
When removing the vinyl from the package do not allow it
to wrinkle, bend, crease or fold. This will make it difficult
in those areas to mount. If you bought a tiled print or
a wrap that has multiple pieces you want to make sure you
have all the pieces. Then ready them in the order they are
to be applied. Set aside each piece and layer them in order.
Remember you really have only one chance to get it right
after you take off the backing paper (liner). Seamed murals
with have additional instructions.
PRE APPLICATION
With a one helper or two unroll the print and mount to the
wall at the top by using blue painters tape with 2 inch
squares. (Use of masking tape, cellophane tape, or any other
tape may remove the color from the print.) Start with a
few pieces at the top two corners until it is hanging straight
( measure from ceiling on both sides) then add more across
the top so it will not fall. Make sure someone is holding
each side during this process so the print does not fall.
Once it is securely attached across the top you will add
more pieces down the side making sure the print is laying
flat on the wall. With your hand spread the print from the
center out and applying the pieces of blue tape to the side
until it is perfectly flat and straight. White cloth gloves
or a soft rag in hand allows you to slide across the print
smoothing it out easily. You must be careful not to scratch
or rip the print with sharp edges or finger nails. The first
part is the most critical part of the install because it
justifies how the image will be installed from there on.
Add more pieces of blue tape down the sides every six inches
or so keeping it flat.
Once you are satisfied with the position you will remove
the blue tape across the top and apply the release tape
with the squeegee fromthe top edge acrros the width of the
tape. (3 inches see diagram). You will now fold the top
part down around six inches so you can see the back of the
print and the hard backing paper. Make sure the tape on
the side holds firmly and add more until does. Do not let
the print be creased or seamed and keeping it rolled over
at the top. Keep it hanging naturally and do not put down
on it. The only part you will crease is the hard backing
paper for the first few inches to reveal the adhesive.
As the paper is hanging peel back the backing paper upward
starting from one side to the other. Once you have it peeled
back around 3-4 inches evenly across the length you will
fold it back on itself and crease the hard backing paper
so it stays in place while the exposed back of the adhesive
print hangs down. By doing this you will apply the first
part evenly across the top. It is the most important part
of the process so take your time. The rest of the installation
will follow this alignment. You now should have 3 -4 inches
of the backing paper folded back and the adhesive decal
showing.
IMPORTANT: Install the anti friction sleeve on the sgeegeee.
You can also use a piece of cloth or tee shirt on the squeegee
so you do not damage or scratch the print. Pressing to hard
will rip the decal. You only need to apply enough pressure
to stick the print to the wall.
Fold up the print in the center with the adhesive staying
away from the wall. Starting from the center you will lightly
squeegee across the crease that is now on the underside
to make sure it is straight. then you squeegee up and out
starting from the center. The backing paper should now be
creased and folded under the print and the top part of the
print will be stuck to the wall.
Once you have the top part stuck to the wall across the
top and it is flat you can remove all the side pieces of
blue tape so it is only hanging only from the top. Make
sure you are careful pulling the blue tape pieces off so
the ink does not come off or you rip the print.
Now that you have the print hanging from the top you will
slowly pull the backing paper down from each side and the
center a few inches at a time trying to keep tension on
it while you squeegee from the center out. You will now
also squeegee downward to stick it to the wall. Be careful
for the first few inches you do not pull to hard and pull
the decal off the wall. Pull it down 2 -3 inches then squeegee
from the center out with slight angle on the squeegee.
Do not rush this process. Take your time then pull more
of the backing paper down and squeegee outward from the
center and down from the center. If wrinkles start to form
you may be stretchign it one way or the other to much. Try
going in the opposite direction. If you geta large wrinkle
before you squeggee you can pull back on the print and reapply.
Be careful you do not pull to hard and rip it. If you constantly
keep tension from the bottom on the print and backing paper
it will go on easier. This is where you can use helpers.
When you near the end do not pull off all the backing paper
until only a inch is left otherwise it could bunch up. Continue
theprocess untill it is all applied. If you have excess
or are applying to a window or moulding you can cut the
overlapping edges with a razor knife at the crease. Then
slowly pull off the material you do not want.
